Drew Mariani Radio, Canon Law against No-Fault Divorce

Drew Mariani Radio, Canon Law against No-Fault Divorce

Relevant Radio, The Drew Mariani Show, Jan. 9, 2017

Drew Mariani explained how Texas lawmaker hopes to keep couples together, ending ‘no-fault’ divorces. Furthermore, an article by gender war expert, Suzanne Venker, prompted Drew to dedicate an hour to no-fault divorce.   In Venker’s article, Couples Who Stay Married Think Differently From Those Who Choose Divorce, she said “couples who choose to stay together share a commitment to marriage as an institution” and they “mentally remove the option to divorce.”

Before I was on air, Drew and his guest discussed in injustice of unilateral no-fault divorce.  When introducing me, he told listeners about our book “The Gift of Self, A Spiritual Companion for Separated and Divorced Faithful to the Sacrament of Marriage.”

Drew and I discussed the Church’s teaching and canon law and resources that Mary’s Advocates provides.

Near then end, Drew asked me a far reaching question:

Give me your perspective on how this is going to be remedied or changed?  You’ve been doing this for a while now and I am just curious as to what the big picture is and what you see coming?

My answers was heartfelt and reflected the fortitude that I’ve seen in Defendants in no-fault divorce.

We’ve got great laws on the books in the Church, and the Constitution has great principles about respecting contracts.  Until those laws are implemented by the people who have competence to do so, it is a mess. In the meantime,  Catholics who trust that they are married to their spouses will remain faithful;  we will offer our sufferings;  we will grow in trusting Jesus;  we will work on loving and forgiving our spouses; and we will support each other.   And I don’t care what else happens.

That is what’s going on Drew.  It’s a mess. And little by little, people who are living in it, are standing anyway.
