For decades now, I have been trying to reach the clergy and lay counselors by pointing out the Scriptures, Catechism, and Canon Law they ignore. But I think adult children of divorce could reach them like no other by sharing the reality of their trauma.
EWTN host, Crystalina Evert interviewed Joey Pontarelli on her show “Women Made New” in the episode Finding Healing From The Pain Of Divorce (listen) 3 Sept..
Pontarelli is the founder of Restored, a ministry that provides practical guidance on how to heal from the trauma of your parents’ divorce or separation, so you can feel whole again.
He articulately touched my heart by demonstrating how painful it was for his parents to split up when he was 11, crying alone in his closet. He convincingly explained later how his parent’s divorce impacted his poor choices as an emerging adult. He ended the interview by emphatically telling any husband or wife who is contemplating divorce, to “Fight for your marriage.” I would like to get him in front of any and all Catholic influencers to tug on their heartstrings.
