In this six minute excerpt, I was able to ask Greg and Julie Alexander about unilateral no-fault divorce. Greg and Julie are founders of the Alexander house that specializes in teaching people God’s plan for marriage.
My question on the radio was making an analogy between teen suicide and divorce. Our culture considers teen suicide to be a tragedy that we want to prevent. But, when someone is despairing about their marriage, we have the opposite: unilateral no-fault divorce, in which a spouse is encouraged to go for it. Greg agrees that we have a problem that married households became the minority. This is a huge problem that should be the headline every day. We have so much social science that proves the children and the society do better when we have strong marriages.
Julie says everyone needs to stand up for marriage and encourage those we know who are struggling, and let them know that we believe in marriage and point them to good resources, like Marriage 411 (developed by the Alexanders). Couple come to the Alexanders who have found no one among their friends and family to support their marriage.
Teresa Tomeo points out that our society puts value in working on so many aspects of our lives, like our careers, health, save money for remodeling our home, but they don’t think they have to work on their marriages.
