Stephen Baskerville, PhD, author of “Taken Into Custody, The War Against Fathers, Marriage, and the Family” joins Bai Macfarlane to discuss the injustice of no-fault divorce and the feckless response of Churches. Mary’s Advocates is raising money to hire a canon lawyer for a husband whose “psychobabble” annulment case is on appeal in Rome.
Stephen Baskerville believes churches have been “feckless and useless” in responding to divorce and family breakdown. He says religious institutions witness marriages as sacred covenants yet remain silent when civil courts dissolve them and impose injustices. In his view, churches should actively defend marriage and the abandoned spouse. He proposes that clergy and congregations intervene publicly, support the injured party, and uphold religious teaching on the permanence of marriage. Even if ignored, he believes churches must speak and act on principle, offering moral leadership, discipline, and communal pressure to encourage reconciliation and demonstrate that marriage vows remain binding and meaningful.
