You’ll love these excerpts from Fr. Arnel Lagman, the parochial vicar at Cleveland’s Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. The Gospel on Friday, June 12, ended with Jesus’ condemnation of divorce in Matthew 5:32.
He hit the controversial subject head on, acknowledging that most young people cohabit today, rather then marry. Jesus told the Jews that Moses allowed for divorce only because of the people’s hardness of hearts. From the beginning, it was not so.
Divorce is diabolic, says Fr. Lagman. He encourages couples telling them to stick to each other in sickness and in health, for better for worse. “Always remember separation is never an option; only death can separate you.”
