I spoke with Kira Marie McCullough about what it means to stay faithful to marriage vows—even after a civil divorce. Kira shares her personal journey of holding onto her vows despite her husband’s decision to leave.
“When my husband walked out, Jesus walked in,” Kira explains. She describes the emotional toll of divorce, the pressure from family and friends to “move on,” and the deep conviction that her marriage still exists in God’s eyes. Rather than seeing divorce as freedom, she views it as a cross to carry, one that can be offered to God for her husband’s conversion.
I acknowledge how difficult this path is, but also how it can bring unexpected peace. “If one gives one’s soul to Jesus, He’s going to give you joy,” I say. The conversation highlights how trusting in God’s plan, even when life feels broken, can bring unexpected strength.
Ultimately, we emphasize that real love isn’t about convenience or feelings—it’s about faithfulness. For Kira, that means trusting that God is working, even when she can’t see the outcome. “All I want,” she says, “is for my husband to be truly happy—and true happiness is only found in God.”
